A Short History Of Social Media

24Mar09

In this short and entertainnig video Ethan Zuckerman revieuws the history of social computing.

The history lesson is recommended in particular for those who think the web ‘became’ – ‘social’ around the turn of the century. Zuckerman, lists examples from far before the world wide web existed. I guess the bottom line is that the web has always been social, it ‘became ‘ mainstream social recently. You could also say that the web has gained a social image because of rise of social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook and Hyves. A short history of those can be found in this comprehensive article written by Danah M Boyd and Nicole B. Ellison. Enjoy and share your thoughts.
